Tragic blaze at former UK military base claims three lives
LONDON — A devastating fire at a former British military installation has claimed the lives of two firefighters and one civilian, according to official sources on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the old Royal Air Force base in Bicester, near Oxford, now repurposed as a heritage site for aviation and motor sports. The fire erupted inside a large warehouse, sending thick smoke into the sky and triggering explosions, as reported by local witnesses.
Two additional firefighters sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospital, Oxfordshire County Council confirmed.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences on social media, praising the courage of emergency responders and wishing the injured a quick recovery.
Fire crews had managed to bring the blaze under control by Friday morning, but remained on site to monitor the situation.
