Tragedy in Fnideq: death toll rises to four after truck accident
The death toll from Saturday’s truck accident in the town center of Fnideq has risen to four, with eight others injured, local authorities confirmed. The collision involved a large truck carrying construction materials that struck two buildings after a brake failure caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The first building hit housed a café on the ground floor and residential apartments above. The second contained several shops and an unclassified hotel. The force of the impact sparked a fire, which was quickly controlled by civil protection teams.
Emergency services, including local authorities and security personnel, promptly secured the area, extinguished the flames, and evacuated the injured. Victims were transported to Hassan II Hospital in Fnideq for medical treatment.
Significant material damage was reported: both buildings suffered severe structural damage, and seven nearby vehicles were affected by the collision and subsequent fire. Search operations are ongoing to ensure no additional victims remain trapped in the debris.
An investigation has been launched under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and assign responsibility.
