Three women injured in knife attack on Paris metro, suspect arrested

Paris, December 27, 2025 — Three women were injured on Friday afternoon during a series of knife attacks on the Paris metro, according to French authorities. The suspect fled the scene before being arrested later the same day outside the capital.

The attacks occurred at three different stations along the same metro line in central Paris during the afternoon, public transport operator RATP confirmed. Two of the victims were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while the third woman sought medical treatment on her own.

Investigators were able to identify the suspected attacker through surveillance camera footage, the Paris public prosecutor’s office said. The suspect, a 25-year-old man already known to police for previous offenses, was arrested in the Val-d’Oise area, northwest of Paris.

An investigation has been opened on charges including attempted voluntary homicide and aggravated assault with a weapon. Authorities also stated that the suspect was subject to an expulsion order and was under a search warrant at the time of his arrest.

The incident comes as French authorities have reinforced security measures ahead of New Year celebrations. The Interior Ministry recently called for heightened vigilance, particularly in public transport networks, amid concerns over public order disturbances and security threats.
