Three Pakistani Rangers killed in attack on security headquarters in Karachi

At least three members of Pakistan's Sindh Rangers were killed after armed attackers launched an assault on a paramilitary headquarters in Karachi, according to local media reports and security officials.

The attack unfolded in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar district, a densely populated area of Pakistan's largest city that is home to several universities and key government facilities.

Explosion followed by exchange of gunfire

Witnesses reported hearing a powerful explosion before sustained gunfire erupted around the Rangers compound, prompting a rapid deployment of security forces.

Authorities quickly sealed off the surrounding area while emergency services responded to the incident. Security personnel launched an operation to contain the attack and secure the facility.

According to police officials, three suspected militants were also killed during the confrontation.

Investigation underway

Law enforcement agencies have opened an investigation to determine how the attackers carried out the assault, whether they received external support and if additional suspects remain at large.

Forensic teams have been deployed to examine the scene, while intelligence services are working to establish the identities of those involved and determine the motive behind the attack.

No group had immediately claimed responsibility at the time of the latest official updates.

Security challenges remain in Pakistan

Although the overall security situation in Pakistan has improved compared with previous years, attacks targeting security personnel and government installations continue to occur in some regions.

Karachi, Pakistan's financial and commercial hub, has experienced periods of militant violence in the past, though large-scale security operations have significantly reduced such incidents over the last decade.

Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue and additional security measures are implemented around sensitive public infrastructure.

National focus on counterterrorism

The latest attack highlights the continuing challenges facing Pakistan's security agencies as they seek to combat militant threats while protecting strategic facilities and densely populated urban areas.

Government officials are expected to review security protocols following the incident, with investigators working to determine whether broader counterterrorism measures need to be strengthened.
