The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup: All 32 Teams Confirmed
The list of 32 teams for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is now complete following the final of the Copa Libertadores on Sunday, December 1. The FIFA-organized tournament, now with a new format, will take place in the summer of 2025.
This inaugural edition of the revamped tournament will feature club champions from six continents. Among the confirmed teams are European champion Real Madrid, English clubs Chelsea and Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
Prior to the weekend, 31 teams had been confirmed for the group stage draw, leaving the final spot up for grabs in the Copa Libertadores final between Botafogo and fellow Brazilian team Atletico Mineiro. Despite playing most of the match with ten players due to an early red card, Botafogo secured a 3-1 victory, earning their place in the 2025 Club World Cup.
The reimagining of the Club World Cup has sparked controversy. Many players have expressed concerns over the FIFA decision to add another demanding competition to the already packed football calendar, especially as there is increasing pressure to reduce the number of high-level matches. Additionally, the decision to invite Inter Miami, which was eliminated in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs, has been widely seen as a move to ensure Messi’s participation in the tournament.
The group stage draw for the tournament will take place on Thursday, December 5, at 18:00 GMT. The final will be held in the United States, running from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
