Tesla establishes Moroccan subsidiary, signaling Africa expansion

Tesla has officially entered the Moroccan market by creating a local subsidiary headquartered in Casablanca. The move positions Morocco as a key hub for Tesla’s operations in North Africa and a launchpad for its broader ambitions across the African continent.

The subsidiary, established on May 27, is registered as a limited liability company with an initial capital of MAD 27.5 million ($2.75 million). Tesla’s Moroccan base is located in the Crystal Tower at Casablanca Marina, one of the city’s premier business districts. The new entity was formed by two Dutch-based Tesla affiliates: Tesla International B.V., which oversees global operations, and Tesla Motors Netherlands B.V.

Tesla’s first African foothold

Morocco marks Tesla’s first direct presence in North Africa, underlining the country’s increasing role in promoting clean energy and electric mobility. The subsidiary will manage the import, sale, and maintenance of Tesla vehicles, as well as vehicle replacement services. Additionally, Tesla plans to roll out renewable energy solutions, including solar production systems, energy storage technology, and potentially electricity distribution.

The company’s decision to formalize its presence follows the installation of its first African Supercharger stations in Morocco in 2021, starting in Tangier and Casablanca. Today, Tesla Superchargers operate in several cities, including Rabat, Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir, making Morocco a testing ground for its innovative ventures.

Leadership and services

Tesla’s Moroccan subsidiary will be managed by Rafael Arqueza Martin and Shahin Oliver Khorshidpanah, who will oversee a combination of automotive services and energy solutions tailored to local needs. Tesla is expected to expand its offerings to include solar panels, battery systems, technical training, and engineering support.

Morocco as a strategic hub

The move cements Morocco’s role as a strategic point in Tesla’s long-term vision for Africa. With its robust infrastructure, strong renewable energy initiatives, and proximity to European and African markets, Morocco provides an ideal base for Tesla to explore sustainable solutions on the continent.

By formally entering Morocco, Tesla joins a select group of markets that host its full range of services, reinforcing the country’s growing importance in the global transition to clean energy.
