Tear gas drifts toward hospital during Iran protests, media report
Iranian media reported late Tuesday that tear gas used by security forces during protests in Tehran drifted toward a nearby hospital but was not intentionally fired at the medical facility.
According to the ISNA news agency, tear gas was deployed in an alley close to Sina Hospital, located in central Tehran, as authorities attempted to disperse demonstrators. The hospital is affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which issued a statement clarifying the incident.
The statement explained that protesters attempted to move the tear gas away from the gathering area, causing some of it to spread unintentionally toward the hospital. Officials rejected claims that security forces deliberately targeted the medical facility, describing such allegations as inaccurate.
Iran has witnessed recurring demonstrations linked to rising living costs, with security forces frequently using tear gas to disperse crowds. Human rights organizations have reported fatalities during the unrest, including civilians, while Iranian authorities state that members of the security forces have also been killed.
The incident has added to concerns over public safety amid ongoing protests, as tensions remain high in several parts of the country.
