Police in Tangier have successfully disrupted a significant drug trafficking operation, seizing more than 5.7 tons of cannabis. This operation took place on Thursday evening in collaboration with Morocco's General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

The police action unfolded near Moulay Bousselham, approximately 137.8 kilometers from Rabat. Officers apprehended two suspects linked to an international drug trafficking network, as confirmed by a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

One suspect was captured in the act while attempting to export drugs using a truck registered outside of Morocco. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 140 bundles of cannabis, amounting to a total of 5.75 tons.

Further investigation revealed the involvement of a woman, who was subsequently arrested in a separate operation in Kenitra.

The detained suspects are currently in custody as authorities continue their investigations to uncover further details and identify additional accomplices in this extensive drug operation.

This incident adds to a series of recent successful drug enforcement actions by Moroccan authorities. Just a few days prior, police thwarted another attempt to smuggle over four tons of cannabis in Temara, also near Rabat, where five individuals, aged between 24 and 50, were apprehended for their roles in an organized drug trafficking network.
