Taiwan hit by 6.1-magnitude earthquake
Taiwan experienced a significant seismic event on Wednesday, when a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the southeastern part of the island. The Central Weather Bureau reported that the quake occurred at 5:47 p.m. local time (9:47 a.m. GMT) at a depth of approximately 11.9 kilometers in Taitung County.
Although the tremor was strong, authorities have not yet reported any immediate damage or injuries. Residents in Kaohsiung, a major city in southern Taiwan, were able to observe the effects from surrounding hills and mountains. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, warning citizens to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
