Taiwan conducts live-fire HIMARS drills in anti-invasion exercise
Taiwan’s armed forces carried out a live-fire military exercise on Wednesday featuring the use of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), highlighting the island’s efforts to strengthen its defensive capabilities amid rising regional tensions.
The drill simulated a response to a potential invasion scenario and focused on the system’s mobility and precision strike capability. Military units demonstrated a “shoot-and-scoot” tactic, in which rocket systems fire and quickly relocate to avoid detection and counterattacks, improving survivability on the battlefield.
The HIMARS platform, widely known for its use in modern conflicts, was deployed in a coastal training area in central Taiwan. This marked a significant step in expanding operational testing beyond previous exercises conducted on the island’s eastern regions.
According to military officials, the objective of the exercise was to validate rapid deployment procedures and ensure that units can effectively operate under conditions resembling real combat pressure. Commanders emphasized that mobility and speed remain critical factors in modern warfare, particularly for defending against larger forces.
Taiwan continues to invest in advanced weapons systems and training programs as part of its broader defense modernization strategy, aiming to deter potential threats and strengthen readiness in a complex security environment.
