Syngenta names Hengde Qin as new CEO in leadership transition
Swiss-based agricultural technology company Syngenta has appointed Hengde Qin as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the leadership transition set to take effect on August 1, the company announced on Wednesday.
The appointment marks a significant leadership change at one of the world's largest agribusiness groups and signals the company's continued reliance on experienced executives from within its parent organization, Sinochem.
Qin brings more than two decades of experience within the broader Sinochem group. He joined the Chinese state-owned enterprise in 2004 and has held several senior management positions before being named President of Syngenta Group China in 2020.
His promotion comes as Syngenta continues to expand its global footprint in crop protection, seeds, biological products and digital agriculture, sectors that have become increasingly important as farmers seek to improve productivity while addressing sustainability and food security challenges.
The company did not provide additional details regarding the strategic priorities that Qin will pursue after assuming the role. However, his appointment reflects Syngenta's emphasis on leadership continuity and its close integration with Sinochem following the Chinese group's acquisition of the company.
