Strengthening ties: Finland and Morocco explore trade cooperation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, met on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Rabat, with Mr. Ville Tavio, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of Finland.

Mr. Tavio is visiting Morocco from April 28 to 30, accompanied by a delegation of businesses under the auspices of Business Finland.

In Rabat, the minister will also engage with Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade; Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform; Leïla Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development; and Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister of Economy and Finance. The discussions will focus on the state of bilateral relations and prospects for trade cooperation between Helsinki and Rabat.

Following his meetings in the Moroccan capital, Mr. Tavio will continue to Casablanca, where he will participate in several events aimed at promoting Finnish exports, including the Finland-Morocco Economic Forum, organized in collaboration with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).

The minister will also visit the Tanger Med port complex, the largest container terminal on the African Atlantic coast, where several Finnish logistics companies, including Kalmar and Wärtsilä, have already established their expertise.

“Morocco holds a unique position for our companies: it provides privileged access to African markets and is preparing significant infrastructure projects in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal. Finnish companies possess the necessary skills to meet these challenges with excellence,” stated Mr. Tavio.

The delegation includes representatives from companies such as AMG Technologies, Confoot, Ecosir Group, Kalmar, Metso, Nokia, Vaisala, Wirepas, and Wärtsilä.
