Abdellatif Hammouchi, the Director-General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco, welcomed the Spanish Commissioner General of Information, Javier Antonio Susín Bercero, on Wednesday in Rabat. This meeting, led by a high-level Spanish security delegation, marked the Commissioner General’s first official international visit since his appointment, highlighting Morocco’s significance in advancing bilateral cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism.

According to a statement from the DGST, the discussions centered on assessing global terrorism threats, particularly in high-risk regions like the Sahel and Sahara. The dialogue also emphasized the importance of joint operations in countering terrorism and extremism. Both parties reviewed the pivotal role of Moroccan security services in ensuring safety during the 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. The focus included strategies in criminal intelligence, proactive security measures, and mitigating public safety risks.

The Spanish Commissioner General commended the exceptional level of cooperation between Morocco and Spain. He acknowledged that Spain has successfully thwarted significant terrorist plots due to critical intelligence provided by the DGST. This collaboration, he noted, underscores the importance of leveraging Morocco’s support to address growing global security challenges.

Additionally, both parties highlighted the necessity of enhancing joint operations and coordinated arrests in radicalized environments in Morocco and Spain. They agreed on the need to intensify mechanisms for security cooperation across multiple domains, ensuring mutual preparedness against evolving threats to public safety.

The visit exemplifies the advanced security partnership between Morocco and Spain, underscoring the international demand for Morocco’s expertise in counterterrorism efforts. It also reaffirms both nations' commitment to a unified approach in tackling shared security challenges.
