Strengthening Moroccan-Canarian Connectivity : Binter's Direct Flights from Tangier to Gran Canaria
Binter Canarias, a leading Spanish airline, has recently resumed direct flights between Tangier's Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG) and Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), marking a significant step in enhancing aviation links between Morocco and the Canary Islands. This reinvigorated air route underscores the airline's enduring partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and their shared commitment to boosting tourism and connectivity across the regions.
The anticipated flights commenced on Wednesdays, offering a weekly service extended until the end of October, significantly longer than previous operational periods. Departures from Tangier are scheduled for 2:10 PM, with arrivals in the Canary Islands at 5:50 PM. Return flights depart Gran Canaria at 10:10 AM, landing in Tangier at 1:25 PM.
Binter's ATR72 aircraft completed the journey in approximately four hours, marking the inaugural flight from Tangier's Ibn Battouta Airport. Passengers embarked on this newly revived route, joining those departing from the Moroccan city.
Borja Bethencourt, Binter's head of international communication, expressed enthusiasm for the launch of this summer service from Tangier Airport, noting its success in previous years. Bethencourt highlighted a notable 35.8% increase in seat capacity this season, totaling 1,890 seats on this route.
"This expansion and extended flight period underscore our commitment to Morocco," he emphasized. "Last year's route launch was well received, and we anticipate a similar response this year, benefiting tourism between the Canary Islands and Morocco."
Passengers on the inaugural flight to Gran Canaria praised the direct service, eliminating the need for multiple stopovers via Madrid or other Moroccan airports. They welcomed Tangier Airport's expanded connectivity, now linking to numerous European destinations.
The initiative is part of a collaborative effort between Binter and the ONMT to boost tourism recovery and connectivity with the Canary Islands. Binter also introduces its Discover Stopover product, allowing Tangier residents to visit two Canary Islands in one trip through the AirPass, available for purchase on the airline's website.
Passengers on these routes can enjoy Binter's onboard amenities, including gourmet snacks and a comfortable journey aboard their modern fleet.
Binter will also enhance connections with Agadir, introducing a second weekly flight from July to mid-September. Last year, Binter inaugurated customer service offices in Agadir to better serve passengers and partner travel agencies, enhancing localized services.
