Stellantis unveils Smart Compact Van ahead of November market launch
Automotive group Stellantis has unveiled its new Smart Compact Van (SMC), expanding its commercial vehicle lineup as it prepares for a market launch scheduled for November.
The new model, developed under Stellantis Pro One, the company’s commercial vehicles division, is designed to strengthen its position in the highly competitive light commercial vehicle segment, which remains one of the group’s strongest business areas in Europe.
The Smart Compact Van will offer a flexible range of powertrain options, including a fully electric version with a driving range of up to 270 kilometers, as well as internal combustion engines consisting of diesel and petrol variants. A mild-hybrid version is also expected to join the lineup next year, reflecting Stellantis’ strategy of balancing electrification with traditional engine technologies.
The company has opened order intake for September, with production and sales officially scheduled to begin in November. Stellantis said the new model is positioned as a more affordable alternative within its commercial vehicle range, aiming to attract professional drivers and small business users.
The Compact Van family remains one of Stellantis’ most successful product lines, holding a significant share of the European market. The company continues to invest in expanding its portfolio as part of a broader strategic plan that includes more than 60 new vehicle launches and multiple model updates by 2030.
The Smart Compact Van also introduces interior upgrades focused on practicality and efficiency. Features such as a redesigned passenger seat system allow for increased cargo space and multifunctional use, including conversion into a mobile workspace or dining surface, targeting professionals who rely on flexible transport solutions.
Industry analysts note that the commercial vehicle market is undergoing a transition, with manufacturers increasingly combining electric mobility with traditional engines to meet diverse customer needs and regulatory requirements across different regions.
With this launch, Stellantis aims to reinforce its leadership in the European light commercial vehicle sector while adapting to the ongoing transformation of the global automotive industry.
