Starship achieves successful test flight after series of explosions

SpaceX’s Starship, the mega-rocket developed by billionaire Elon Musk to reach the Moon and Mars, has completed a successful test flight, marking a sharp contrast with previous attempts marred by dramatic explosions.

The world’s largest rocket, standing over 120 meters tall, lifted off from Texas on Tuesday evening after several delays caused by technical issues and weather conditions. This was the 10th test flight of Starship, following three failed launches earlier this year and an additional ground test explosion in June.

The booster, Super Heavy, detached from the spacecraft as planned and landed in the Gulf of Mexico, while the main vehicle reached orbit, deployed satellite simulators for the first time, and re-entered Earth’s atmosphere without exploding. Although it lost some heat shield tiles, it splashed down in the Indian Ocean as expected.

Elon Musk celebrated the success on his platform X, while NASA praised the milestone, highlighting Starship’s importance to the Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon. Despite this achievement, Musk acknowledged that thousands of technical challenges remain before Starship can safely carry astronauts or attempt missions to Mars.
