Spain faces massive power outage disrupting daily life
Spain is grappling with a significant power outage as of Monday, according to the national grid operator Red Eléctrica. The company has confirmed that “all resources are currently being mobilized to restore supply.”
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Red Eléctrica added, “We have activated power restoration plans in collaboration with sector companies following the outage affecting the peninsula's system.” The exact causes of the incident are still under investigation.
The widespread outage has led to the suspension of train services across the entire network, as reported by Adif, the Spanish railway infrastructure administrator, through their updates on X.
Public broadcaster RNE has noted that the blackout does not extend to the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands, providing some relief to those regions.
Additionally, the airport management authority Aena has reported that a few incidents have occurred at airports due to the power cut, but emergency generators are operational to mitigate the impact.
