SoftBank secures $40 billion loan to boost OpenAI investments
SoftBank Group has arranged a $40 billion bridge loan to support further investments in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and to cover general corporate expenses, the company announced on Friday.
The loan, which matures in March 2027, was coordinated with major financial institutions including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Mizuho Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and MUFG Bank. SoftBank has previously committed $30 billion to OpenAI through its Vision Fund 2. The new facility is unsecured, according to the company.
This funding move highlights SoftBank’s ongoing commitment to artificial intelligence and its efforts to expand its stake in one of the leading AI developers globally.
