SoftBank launches cybersecurity product powered by Open AI models
SoftBank Group has introduced a new cybersecurity product designed to strengthen digital defenses against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats powered by artificial intelligence. The initiative marks a major step in the company’s expansion into AI-driven security solutions.
The new service, called “Patching as a Service,” aims to detect and address system vulnerabilities that could be exploited by AI-enabled cyberattacks. It will initially be deployed in Japan through a joint venture between SoftBank’s telecommunications subsidiary and OpenAI, highlighting growing collaboration between the two companies.
Company officials stated that the product is intended to support the protection of critical infrastructure and business systems, as organizations face rising risks linked to advanced AI capabilities. The development comes amid global concerns about cybersecurity, particularly as artificial intelligence tools become more powerful and accessible.
SoftBank leadership emphasized that AI should not only be viewed as a technological opportunity but also as a tool for defense. The company’s founder highlighted the importance of building systems capable of safeguarding essential national and corporate networks in the digital era.
The initiative also reflects the deepening relationship between SoftBank and OpenAI, as both companies continue to explore AI integration for enterprise solutions. SoftBank is among OpenAI’s major investors, with long-term financial commitments reaching tens of billions of dollars, reinforcing its strategic interest in the AI sector.
The rollout of the cybersecurity product is expected to expand significantly, with staffing planned to grow from several dozen specialists to a much larger team in the coming period. This expansion signals the company’s ambition to scale AI-based security solutions for broader commercial and institutional use.
Overall, the launch underscores the increasing convergence between artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, as companies worldwide race to develop tools capable of defending against next-generation digital threats.
