Snowfall cuts 16 roads across eight provinces in Morocco

Heavy snowfall disrupted road traffic across several regions of Morocco on Wednesday, leading to the closure of 16 national, regional, and provincial roads in eight provinces, according to the General Directorate of Roads under the Ministry of Equipment and Water.

As of 9:15 a.m. on December 24, authorities reported that snow accumulation had made multiple routes impassable, particularly in mountainous areas. The most affected provinces include Midelt, Ifrane, Boulemane, Taza, Guercif, Sefrou, Tinghir, and Azilal.

In Midelt province, four major roads were closed, including sections of national roads N12 and N13, as well as regional and provincial routes connecting remote mountain communities. Ifrane province also experienced significant disruptions, with three roads closed between Timahdite, Azrou, and surrounding areas.

Additional closures were recorded in Boulemane and Taza provinces along national road N29, while regional roads linking Guercif, Sefrou, Tinghir, and Azilal were also affected. Road maintenance teams remain mobilized to clear snow and restore traffic as weather conditions permit.

Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, and stay informed through official updates.
