Six UIR scholars recognized among world’s leading scientists in Stanford ranking
Morocco’s International University of Rabat (UIR) has earned international acclaim after six of its researchers were named among the world’s top 2% of scientists in Stanford University’s 2025 global ranking, a milestone that underscores the rising influence of Moroccan research on the world stage.
Global recognition of Moroccan excellence
In a statement, the UIR described the distinction as “a true source of pride” and “a global acknowledgment of the scientific value of its researchers.” The honored scholars include Asmae Berrada, Amine Belhadi, Foued Saâdaoui, Khaled Mokni, Mohamed Bakhouya, and Said Ahzi.
Stanford’s annual ranking, based on data from the SCOPUS international database, evaluates scientists across multiple criteria such as publication quality, citation impact, and overall research influence. It recognizes both lifetime contributions and achievements over the past year.
UIR’s growing international stature
The recognition comes as UIR marks its 15th anniversary, celebrating a decade and a half of steady expansion and academic distinction. The university’s engineering schools recently earned ABET accreditation from the United States, CTI certification, and the prestigious EUR-ACE label from Europe, benchmarks of global excellence in engineering education.
Meanwhile, UIR’s Rabat Business School has entered the top 20 globally, a rare feat for an African institution. UIR also leads Africa in patent filings and holds the top spot in Morocco according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
A rising force in scientific innovation
Founded in 2010, UIR has built its reputation on combining academic rigor with applied research. The Stanford distinction reinforces its position as a key driver of Morocco’s scientific progress and a competitive player among global research institutions.
By nurturing innovation and maintaining strong links with international partners, UIR continues to demonstrate that African universities can shape global knowledge and contribute meaningfully to technological and scientific advancement.
