Sino-American trade talks set for Monday in London
The United States and China are scheduled to hold trade discussions on Monday in London, according to U.S. President Donald Trump, who shared the news on his platform Truth Social. These talks aim to reach a trade agreement between the two largest global economies.
President Trump announced that the American delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This will mark the second meeting between the two nations since Trump's re-election, following an initial meeting in Geneva in mid-May that temporarily paused the ongoing trade war.
As part of the Geneva agreement, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods were reduced from 145% to 30%, while China lowered tariffs on American products from 125% to 10% for a 90-day period.
On Thursday, Trump spoke by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time since the trade tensions began. Trump described the conversation as “very positive.” Meanwhile, Xi urged Trump to “correct the course of the great ship of Sino-American relations,” according to China News Agency.
