On Friday in Rabat, Saint Lucia reiterated its steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, affirming its stance on the entire Moroccan territory, including the Sahara region. The Caribbean nation also reaffirmed its backing for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as the only credible, realistic, and viable solution to the ongoing regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

This position was outlined in a joint statement following discussions between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Saint Lucia’s Minister of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation, and Diaspora, Alva Romanus Baptiste.

Saint Lucia also expressed its approval of the growing international consensus and the momentum generated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the autonomy plan, aligning its position with these efforts.

Furthermore, in the joint statement, Minister Baptiste commended the United Nations for its role as the exclusive framework for seeking a practical and sustainable resolution to the regional dispute.

Lastly, as a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Saint Lucia welcomed the opening of the OECS Embassy in Rabat (October 18, 2018) and the General Consulate in Dakhla (March 31, 2022), both of which provide important opportunities to strengthen relations between Morocco and the six Eastern Caribbean states.
