Russian security services say German woman arrested with explosive device
Russian security services have reported the arrest of a German national in the southern region of Russia after an improvised explosive device was allegedly found in her possession. The case is being investigated by the Federal Security Service (FSB), which described it as a planned attack targeting security infrastructure.
According to official statements cited by state media, the woman, born in 1969, was detained in the Stavropol region. Authorities claim she was involved in preparations for an attack on a security facility in the city of Pyatigorsk, located in the North Caucasus area.
The FSB alleges that the device was intended to be remotely activated by an individual from Central Asia. Russian officials further claimed that the operation was orchestrated with the involvement of actors linked to Ukraine, though no independent verification has been provided.
Security services stated that the suspect had been recruited through an intermediary from a Central Asian country. They also reported identifying another individual, born in 1997, who is believed to have been responsible for triggering the device remotely.
Authorities said the explosive was designed to detonate near a law enforcement site, and that the plan would have resulted in the death of the woman carrying the device.
The allegations come amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with security agencies in Russia frequently reporting the disruption of alleged plots. However, details of such cases are often difficult to independently confirm.
Investigations are ongoing as Russian authorities continue to examine possible cross-border connections and networks they say are involved in sabotage activities.
