Rome: Japanese tourist dies after fatal fall from the Pantheon

A 70-year-old Japanese tourist died in Rome on Friday evening after falling about seven meters from the outer wall of the Pantheon, one of the city’s most famous landmarks, according to local media reports.

The tragic incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. Emergency services arrived quickly but were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transferred to a hospital for autopsy, and an investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the fall.

Among the leading hypotheses is that of a selfie gone wrong — the man may have leaned too far over the edge while taking a photograph. Authorities are also considering other possibilities, including a medical episode or a deliberate act.
