Renault considers new electric vehicle plant in Morocco
Renault is exploring the possibility of establishing an electric vehicle production plant in Morocco, with the upcoming Nador West Med port being evaluated as a potential location. The port, slated to open in 2026, has recently been confirmed on schedule by Morocco's Minister of Equipment, Nizar Baraka.
This initiative aligns with Renault Maroc's industrial strategy outlined for the 2021–2030 period, which focuses on the gradual integration of electrification technologies. The automaker aims to achieve €2.5 billion in local sourcing by 2025 and €3 billion in the longer term, equivalent to approximately MAD 32 billion, while targeting an 80% local integration rate for its supply chain.
Morocco continues to attract international manufacturers seeking to capitalize on its growing role in the global automotive industry. Earlier this year, Chinese company Jinxiu Shanhe partnered with a Moroccan firm to establish an assembly plant, further underscoring the sector’s expansion.
Renault already operates a major production facility in Tangier, which has been producing vehicles since 2012. The potential addition of a second plant dedicated to electric vehicles indicates the company's intention to strengthen its footprint in Morocco’s automotive sector, a key driver of the country’s exports.
