Rapper Pause Flow sentenced to a suspended three-month prison term

The Court of First Instance in Sefrou has sentenced Moroccan rapper Pause Flow to three months in prison with a suspended sentence, along with a fine of 2,000 dirhams. The ruling brings an end to a case that has drawn wide attention in artistic and human rights circles.

Pause Flow, whose real name is Jawad Asradi, was arrested in mid-November and prosecuted on charges of insulting an organized institution and offending public officials while performing their duties. The court delivered its verdict on Thursday, December 25.

The charges stem from several songs released by the artist over the past eight years. Investigators reportedly examined around ten tracks, including “Marionnette,” “Overdose,” and “Doza,” as well as his most recent release, which criticized fellow rapper Don Big. Certain lyrics were deemed controversial and prompted legal action.

Although the suspended sentence allows Pause Flow to avoid serving time in prison, the conviction remains on his criminal record. According to sources close to the case, the rapper remains in custody due to the non-payment of bail.

The case has reignited debate over freedom of expression in Morocco. Artists and human rights advocates have expressed concern, viewing the prosecution as a potential threat to artistic creativity and critical voices within the cultural scene.
