Radio frequency failure disrupts air traffic across Greece

Air traffic across Greece was significantly disrupted on Sunday morning due to a technical malfunction involving radio frequencies, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.

Officials said that several frequencies serving the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) experienced failures, forcing authorities to impose restrictions at both international and regional airports nationwide. As a result, flights arriving in and departing from Greece were affected.

State broadcaster ERT reported that the issue impacted all air traffic linked to the country and confirmed that technical teams were working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, the daily newspaper Kathimerini cited initial findings suggesting the disruption may have been caused by a circuit malfunction. However, authorities have not yet identified the exact origin of the problem.

No timeline has been announced for a full return to normal air traffic, as investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
