Putin announces deployment of mass-produced Oreshnik hypersonic missiles

Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the first mass-produced Oreshnik hypersonic missile systems have been delivered to Russia’s armed forces. Speaking on Friday during a military briefing, Putin emphasized the advanced capabilities of the new weapon, which is already operational and designed to enhance Russia’s strategic deterrence.

Battle-tested and operational

The Oreshnik missile, tested in combat last November in a strike on a Ukrainian military factory, is believed to be nuclear-capable. However, its conventional payload reportedly delivers damage comparable to a low-yield nuclear explosion. Putin ordered its mass production following successful field trials last year, and the system has now entered service, marking a significant milestone in Russia's military modernization.

Strategic deployment plans

Putin revealed that discussions are underway to supply Oreshnik systems to Belarus, with specialists from both nations collaborating on deployment logistics. The issue is expected to be resolved by the end of the year, further strengthening the defense capabilities of both countries.

Military advances and territorial claims

The Russian president also provided updates on the ongoing military operation in Ukraine, stating that Russian forces are advancing along the entire front line, including key regions such as Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson. Highlighting the recent capture of Chasov Yar, a former Ukrainian stronghold in the Donetsk Region, Putin insisted that Russia is reclaiming its own territory rather than seizing foreign land.

Calls for diplomacy

Despite the intensified conflict, Putin reiterated Russia’s openness to negotiations, describing them as essential for achieving peace. He referenced a recent round of talks held in Istanbul, Türkiye, where Russia and Ukraine agreed on prisoner exchanges and discussed the creation of working groups to address political, military, and humanitarian issues more effectively.
