Public execution in Iran after family murder
An Iranian man was executed in public on Tuesday in the southern province of Fars after being convicted of murdering four members of the same family, according to state media.
Mizan, the news agency linked to the judiciary, reported that “one of the perpetrators of the brutal murder of four family members in Beyram was hanged in public on Tuesday.”
The incident dates back to October 2024, when the man, together with his wife, carried out a robbery that led to the killing of a mother and her three children. The couple was sentenced to death in February 2025, with the Supreme Court upholding the ruling in April.
Mizan added that the wife is also facing the death penalty, though her execution is expected to take place in prison, with no date announced.
In Iran, crimes such as murder and rape are punishable by death. The country remains the world’s second most active executor after China, according to rights organizations including Amnesty International. Public executions are usually carried out at dawn by hanging.
