Prosecutor denies claims of detention following protest by families of Leqliaa victims

The Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Rabat refuted circulating social media claims alleging the detention of relatives of the “victims of the Leqliaa events.” According to an official statement, the information is entirely unfounded.

The prosecutor explained that on December 9, 2025, a group of individuals from the city of Leqliaa held an unauthorized sit-in outside the Moroccan Parliament in Rabat, where they displayed banners on the building’s metal fence.

Security forces intervened peacefully and in accordance with legal procedures, asking the demonstrators to end their gathering and leave the area. When they refused to comply, the individuals were taken to the headquarters of the competent judicial police service.

There, authorities asked them to follow the proper legal channels for submitting their demands. All participants were released afterwards, and no restrictive measures were taken against them, the statement stressed.

The prosecutor confirmed that no one was placed in custody, nor was any detention order issued, contradicting the rumors circulating online.
