Production acelerates, Driven by the private sector and ONEE
Morocco’s national electricity production rose by 5.3% during the first eight months of 2025, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
This growth marks a significant acceleration compared to the 2.3% increase recorded a year earlier. The performance was mainly driven by the expansion of private production (+7.5%) and by the increase in output from ONEE (+5.7%).
In contrast, production from renewable energy sources governed by Law 13-09 fell by 11%, following a sharp 39.3% surge at the end of August 2024.
Meanwhile, national electricity consumption jumped by 15.4%, compared to just +1.2% the previous year, leading to a 27.5% rise in electricity imports and a 29.4% decline in exports.
