Powerful explosions reported in Caracas amid rising regional tensions

Loud explosions accompanied by sounds resembling aircraft flyovers were reported early Saturday morning in Caracas, according to local observations and media accounts. The detonations were heard around 2:00 a.m. local time and continued intermittently for several minutes, raising concern among residents of the Venezuelan capital.

Images circulating on social media showed large fires and thick smoke rising into the sky, although the exact locations of the incidents could not be independently confirmed. Reports suggested that the explosions may have occurred in southern and eastern parts of the city.

The incidents come at a time of heightened geopolitical tension involving Venezuela and the United States. In recent days, Washington has increased its military presence in the Caribbean and issued strong warnings toward the government of President Nicolás Maduro. US officials have linked their actions to efforts against alleged drug trafficking networks operating in the region.

Venezuelan authorities have not immediately provided detailed explanations regarding the explosions. President Maduro has repeatedly stated that the country’s defense systems are capable of protecting national sovereignty and maintaining internal stability. Caracas has also accused the United States of seeking to destabilize the country for strategic and economic reasons, accusations denied by Washington.

The situation remains closely monitored as uncertainty persists over the origin and consequences of the explosions.
