Popular Party to Report Unilateral Contract Cancellation to the Court of Auditors
The Popular Party has announced plans to file a complaint with the Court of Auditors regarding the cancellation of a contract for bullet purchases from an Israeli company, claiming the decision was "arbitrary" and driven by "political motives." This contract had already been published in the Official State Bulletin (BOE).
Sources within the party argue that the government's decision to cancel the contract with Israeli company IMI Systems, following pressure from a minor coalition partner, is another example of "abuse of power" by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. They emphasize that contracts should be upheld as part of the public interest, not swayed by personal interests of Sánchez, especially when taxpayer money is at stake.
The party criticized the government's swift change of stance, from stating that the contract could not be canceled to ordering its cancellation "at any cost." They pointed out that Spain will still need to pay the agreed amount to the Israeli company despite the cancellation.
From the perspective of the Popular Party, the government's decision could result in a significant financial cost, making Spain liable for a breach of public funds regulations. They argue that the responsibility for this should fall on those who caused the issue, not on the taxpayers.
The Popular Party plans to oversee the situation closely, demanding accountability at all levels and intends to file an official complaint with the Court of Auditors for this decision.
