Pogba's Doping Ban Reduced: A New Chapter Awaits

In a significant turn of events, Paul Pogba's doping suspension has been reduced from four years to 18 months following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The decision opens the door for the French midfielder to return to competitive football as early as March 2025.

Pogba, a World Cup champion with 91 international caps, was provisionally suspended by Italy's anti-doping agency, NADO Italia, in September 2023 after testing positive for DHEA, a banned substance known to increase testosterone levels. This test occurred after a match between Juventus and Udinese on August 20, 2023. Initially facing a four-year ban, Pogba maintained that his ingestion of the substance was unintentional, stemming from a supplement prescribed by a physician in Florida.

CAS acknowledged Pogba's claims and noted that several experts supported his argument. However, they also concluded that he bore some responsibility for not exercising greater caution regarding his health and fitness regimen. CAS stated, "Mr. Pogba was not without fault... as a professional football player, he should have paid greater care in the circumstances."

Expressing relief over the ruling, Pogba declared, "Finally, the nightmare is over. I can look forward to the day when I can follow my dreams again." His contract with Juventus runs until June 2026, but reports suggest that both he and the club are considering options for his future, including potential opportunities elsewhere.

Pogba's last appearance on the pitch was over a year ago during Juventus's victory against Empoli. His return to the club has been marred by injuries since rejoining from Manchester United on a free transfer in 2022. With this new ruling, he is set to resume training in January and will be eligible to compete starting in March.

As Pogba prepares for this new chapter in his career, the football world watches closely to see where his journey will take him next.
