Pakistan: Death toll from suicide bombing at wedding rises to six
The death toll from a suicide bombing that struck a wedding gathering in northwestern Pakistan has risen to six, local authorities confirmed on Saturday, as concerns grow over persistent militant violence in the region.
According to emergency services officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, one of the injured victims died from wounds sustained in the attack, bringing the total number of fatalities to six. More than 20 people were injured in the explosion, with several still receiving medical treatment.
The attack occurred Friday night in the Dera Ismail Khan district, where a suicide bomber targeted a residential compound during a wedding ceremony hosted by a local leader affiliated with a pro-government peace group. Police later confirmed that the explosion was caused by a suicide attacker.
Southern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have experienced repeated militant attacks in recent years, reflecting a broader deterioration in security conditions across parts of Pakistan.
