NVIDIA expands Morocco AI footprint with Cassava and Nexus projects

Morocco is set to strengthen its position in Africa’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem, with NVIDIA confirming two separate infrastructure initiatives involving the Kingdom.

In an update published on September 21, 2026, the U.S. technology company identified Morocco among several African markets where new AI factories and accelerated-computing infrastructure are being developed or planned. NVIDIA said these facilities are intended to bring high-performance computing closer to African businesses, developers and researchers.

The projects differ in scale but share a common objective: expanding access to AI computing capacity within Africa rather than relying predominantly on infrastructure hosted outside the continent.

Cassava Technologies expands its African AI network

One of the initiatives involves Cassava Technologies, described by NVIDIA as Africa’s first NVIDIA Cloud Partner.

Following the deployment of its AI factory in South Africa, Cassava is planning additional NVIDIA-powered infrastructure in Morocco, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria. NVIDIA estimates that the broader African expansion could represent an investment of up to $720 million.

The company has not yet disclosed the precise Moroccan location, final computing capacity or commissioning schedule for the Kingdom-based facility.

The planned infrastructure is designed to give African organizations access to accelerated computing closer to their operations and data. Such facilities can support AI model training, fine-tuning and inference, while also providing developers and enterprises with locally hosted computing resources.

A second project targets large-scale AI computing near Casablanca

The other Moroccan initiative is considerably larger in its announced scale.

NVIDIA highlighted the Nexus AI Factory, a project announced at GITEX Africa in Marrakech in April. The facility is planned outside Casablanca through cooperation involving Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition, the Ministry of Investment and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development, AMDIE.

The project has an initial investment target of $1.2 billion and is planned to eventually reach 500 megawatts of capacity. It is also expected to use NVIDIA Blackwell accelerated computing and renewable electricity supplied by TAQA Morocco, according to NVIDIA.

At that scale, the facility would represent a significant addition to Morocco’s digital infrastructure, providing computing resources for companies, developers and digital services requiring large-scale AI workloads.

Building computing capacity inside Africa

The Moroccan projects form part of a broader transformation in Africa’s digital infrastructure.

NVIDIA estimates that Africa accounts for around 18% of the global population but less than 1% of global data-center capacity. The company says several new AI factories are now being announced or brought online across the continent, with hundreds of megawatts of additional capacity in development.

The shift could change the way African companies access advanced computing. Instead of sending large AI workloads to data centers located overseas, organizations will increasingly be able to train, adapt and deploy models using infrastructure hosted closer to their markets.

For Morocco, this development comes alongside efforts to expand its technology ecosystem, attract international investment and increase the availability of advanced digital infrastructure.

Energy and infrastructure become strategic considerations

The scale of modern AI factories also creates requirements that extend well beyond computer chips.

Large AI facilities depend on substantial supplies of electricity, cooling systems, networking infrastructure and reliable data-center operations. NVIDIA itself describes AI factories as integrated systems combining energy, computing hardware, infrastructure, software models and applications.

The planned 500-megawatt capacity of the Nexus project therefore places energy availability and infrastructure planning at the center of its long-term development.

Morocco’s renewable-energy resources could become an important component of this equation. NVIDIA specifically identified renewable power from TAQA Morocco as part of the Nexus AI Factory project.

A new phase for Morocco’s digital ambitions

NVIDIA’s confirmation gives greater international visibility to projects that could contribute to the development of Morocco’s AI computing ecosystem.

The two initiatives are not identical: Cassava Technologies’ project forms part of a wider African deployment, while the Nexus AI Factory represents a much larger planned facility near Casablanca. Both, however, point toward the same broader trend — the emergence of locally based computing infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of artificial intelligence applications.

For Morocco, the coming phase will depend on the execution of these projects, the availability of energy and connectivity, and the ability of businesses, researchers and developers to turn additional computing capacity into practical applications.
