Nokia plans to cut more than 400 jobs in France

Nokia’s French branch has announced to its employees on Friday its intention to cut up to 427 jobs, several union sources told AFP. The company’s management had presented on Wednesday to members of the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) a proposal for a collective mutual termination agreement.

According to employee representatives, management stated that it plans to cut 84 jobs at its Lannion site (Côtes-d’Armor) and 343 jobs at its Paris-Saclay sites. In total, this staff reduction would affect more than 18% of Nokia’s nearly 2,300 employees in France. It would impact “almost all of the group’s activities” in the country, said Olivier Marcé, CFE-CGC central union representative.

“We did not expect the number to be so high,” reacted a CFDT representative, noting that these announcements are part of a “cost-reduction plan” already presented by the company. “This is a slow death,” lamented a CGT central union representative.

According to unions, management indicated it hopes to conclude negotiations by December 19 and implement the job cuts during the first half of 2026. Contacted by AFP, Nokia France’s management did not immediately comment. In any collective mutual termination agreement, “union approval is essential,” and can “be the subject of negotiation,” explained Raphaël Arbib, lawyer at AKA.

The company’s three main unions said they had not yet made a decision on the matter. In this type of procedure, which does not require justification on economic grounds, departures are then organized on a voluntary basis.

In a statement published Thursday, three elected officials from Brittany expressed regret over an announcement made in the CSE “without any prior exchange with local representatives, even though commitments had been made to maintain, and even increase, employment in France.” “We therefore request that Nokia’s national management review this plan,” wrote Éric Bothorel, MP for Côtes-d’Armor, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, president of the Brittany region, and Erven Léon, vice president for economy and employment of Lannion-Trégor-Agglomération.
