New step forward for the Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed rail project

Morocco has taken a new step toward expanding its high-speed rail network, as the Office National des Chemins de Fer(ONCF) launched a tender worth 104 million dirhams for the electrical connection of key infrastructure linked to the future high-speed line between Kenitra and Marrakech.

The project involves connecting three strategic electrical substations to the 225-kilovolt grid of the Office National de l'Électricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE). These installations are essential to guarantee a stable and continuous power supply for the future high-speed railway section.

The work will be carried out across three locations: Benslimane, Settat, and Benguerir.

According to project details, a 16-kilometer transmission line will be installed in Benslimane. Meanwhile, overhead lines measuring 18 kilometers and 19 kilometers will be deployed from the electrical stations of Settat and Benguerir to supply the railway infrastructure.

The total budget allocated for the project is estimated at 104 million Moroccan dirhams excluding taxes. Companies selected through the tender process will have 14 months to complete the high-voltage works, which include the installation of single-circuit power lines.

The initiative represents an important technical stage in Morocco’s ambition to extend its high-speed railway network beyond its current corridor linking Tangier and Casablanca, strengthening national rail connectivity and supporting economic development.
