Nearly 100 migrants attempt to swim from Fnideq to Ceuta

Spanish authorities reported that nearly 100 migrants attempted to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta by swimming from the Moroccan town of Fnideq early Wednesday morning.

Some of the individuals tried to swim across the short but dangerous stretch of water, while others used small Moroccan fishing boats to approach the symbolic border.

The incident came just a day after around 50 migrants, including several women, attempted a similar crossing from the same coastal area.

The Guardia Civil admitted its limited capacity to respond effectively, citing shortages of personnel and resources to contain the growing number of attempts.

This marks the second large-scale attempt in recent weeks. In July, over 50 Moroccan minors and about 30 adults also tried to reach Ceuta by swimming, reigniting debates in both Morocco and Spain about how to manage increasing migratory pressures despite reinforced border surveillance.
