Nador Port strengthens capacity with new-generation Chinese electric cranes
Morocco is continuing its major port infrastructure modernization program with the arrival of advanced container-handling equipment at the port of Nador, further reinforcing the country’s position in global maritime logistics.
The port has recently received ten state-of-the-art electric smart cranes manufactured in China, designed to significantly enhance operational efficiency and cargo-handling capacity. These zero-emission portiques are part of a broader investment strategy aimed at improving the competitiveness of Moroccan ports on international trade routes.
The equipment is integrated into a large-scale modernization initiative led by Marsa Maroc, the national port operator, which is overseeing upgrades across several major terminals, including the strategic Nador West Med complex. The objective is to streamline container operations, reduce processing times, and improve overall port productivity.
The new cranes are capable of lifting loads of up to 40 tonnes and incorporate advanced technologies such as automation systems, anti-collision mechanisms, and intelligent operational controls. These features are designed to enhance both safety and efficiency while reducing environmental impact through full electric operation.
The delivery forms part of a larger contract covering 50 cranes intended for deployment across Marsa Maroc-managed facilities. This investment reflects Morocco’s broader ambition to position itself as a key logistics hub linking Africa, Europe, and global shipping networks.
By upgrading its port infrastructure with low-emission and high-capacity equipment, Morocco aims to support growing container traffic while aligning with international standards for sustainability and smart port management.
The modernization of Nador port is expected to play a central role in strengthening regional trade connectivity and boosting the country’s industrial and logistics capabilities in the years ahead.
