Moto GP: bezzecchi apologizes after track marshal incident in Czech Republic
MotoGP championship leader Marco Bezzecchi has publicly apologized following a controversial incident involving a track marshal during the Czech Republic Grand Prix weekend, which led to his exclusion from the main race.
The Italian rider, competing for Aprilia, was sanctioned after an altercation that occurred following a crash during the sprint race. According to race officials, Bezzecchi made physical contact with a marshal who was assisting him after the fall, an action that was later reviewed by the race direction.
As a result, the Czech Republic Grand Prix stewards decided to exclude him from the main race, significantly impacting the competitive outcome of the weekend.
In a public statement shared on social media, Bezzecchi expressed regret for his behaviour, stating that nothing could justify his reaction. He also extended his apologies to the marshal involved, the MotoGP community, and his team. The rider later met the marshal at the circuit, where the two reportedly exchanged a handshake and a gesture of reconciliation.
The incident occurred after Bezzecchi crashed during the sprint race at the Brno circuit, prompting immediate intervention from track officials. Video footage circulating online showed the moment of contact, which quickly sparked discussion across the motorsport world.
Following the decision, only Jorge Martín, also riding for Aprilia, was left to represent the factory team in the main race. Team officials, including Aprilia management, also acknowledged the situation and emphasized respect for race safety personnel.
The case has reignited debate within MotoGP regarding rider conduct under pressure and the importance of maintaining strict respect for track marshals, who play a critical role in ensuring safety during high-speed racing events.
