Mortar fire, blaze, and injured students: high school near Lyon hit by serious incidents
The staff of Robert Doisneau High School in Vaulx-en-Velin, a suburb east of Lyon, exercised their right to withdrawfrom work on Monday afternoon after several days of violent incidents in and around the school.
According to staff representatives, the chaos began last Thursday, when fireworks, smoke bombs, and mortar blastswere set off in the school’s hallways. The following day, similar incidents occurred, and at around 3 p.m., a fire was deliberately started in the toilets before being brought under control.
During the evacuation of students, a firecracker thrown onto the forecourt burned one teenager’s hand and injured another in the knee. A third student fainted and was evacuated by emergency services. Many students were left in shock, and several parents reportedly demanded that their children leave the school for safety reasons.
The incidents have sparked outrage among staff and local authorities, who are demanding stronger security measures to prevent further violence in the establishment.
