Morocco Unveils Comprehensive Taxi Service Overhaul Amid Public Safety Concerns

In a decisive move to address mounting public concerns, Morocco's Interior Ministry has launched an extensive reform package aimed at transforming the nation's taxi services. Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has directed provincial governors and prefects to implement strict regulatory and administrative measures following an increase in online complaints about service quality and safety issues.

The reform initiative targets both small and large taxi operations, with particular emphasis on addressing reckless driving behaviors that have endangered pedestrians and other road users. The comprehensive strategy focuses on modernizing the industry while tackling unprofessional practices that have raised public safety concerns.

Key components of the reform package include stringent fare rate enforcement, improved driver conduct standards, and enhanced vehicle presentation requirements. The ministry has also introduced mandatory professional development programs for taxi drivers, emphasizing ethical conduct and skill enhancement to elevate service quality.

To strengthen accountability, the ministry is establishing new communication channels for passenger feedback, including dedicated phone lines and digital platforms. Strategic monitoring centers will be positioned throughout the country to oversee taxi operations and ensure compliance with the newly implemented standards.
