Morocco to Host Prestigious CAF Awards Ceremony in Marrakech for Third Consecutive Year
The African Football Confederation (CAF) has announced Marrakech, Morocco as the host city for its annual awards ceremony, scheduled for December 16. This marks Morocco's third straight year hosting this distinguished event, solidifying its position as a key venue for African football celebrations.
The upcoming ceremony will evaluate achievements from September 2023 through June 2024, with the coveted CAF African Player of the Year awards for both men's and women's categories taking center stage. Currently, Nigeria's Victor Osimhen holds the men's title, while his compatriot Asisat Oshoala reigns in the women's category.
Often dubbed the African Ballon d'Or, the CAF Awards have been celebrating excellence in African football since 2000. The ceremony spans multiple categories, including Youth Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Club of the Year, offering a comprehensive recognition of talent across the continent.
The 2023 edition proved particularly memorable for Moroccan football, with the national team, the Atlas Lions, securing the Best National Team honor. The ceremony also celebrated several individual Moroccan achievements, including Walid Regragui's Best Coach award, Fatima Tagnaout's Best Women's Interclubs Player recognition, Nesryne El Chad's Young Female Player of the Year award, and Yassine Bounou's Goalkeeper of the Year title.
Morocco's commitment to football development extends beyond this ceremony. The nation is set to host two major upcoming tournaments: the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League from November 9-23 and the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. These events follow Morocco's successful organization of the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which received widespread acclaim from participants and spectators alike.
While the exact commencement time for this year's awards ceremony remains to be announced, the event promises to continue its tradition of recognizing outstanding contributions to African football across both club and national levels.
