Morocco to host interpol general assembly focused on “Purple Notices”
Morocco will host the 93rd Interpol General Assembly in December 2025, during which the evaluation report on the pilot phase of “purple notices” will be presented. These innovative alerts are designed to track and monitor criminal assets across borders.
Introduced in 2022, purple notices allow authorities to locate, identify, and discreetly follow illicit funds, with immediate dissemination to Interpol’s 196 member states. Unlike traditional mutual legal assistance procedures, this mechanism is intended to be fast, confidential, and incentivizing, allowing countries to retain all or part of confiscated assets.
Interpol issued its first purple notice on January 10, 2025, at Italy’s request, in a case related to organized crime. Experts note that the tool addresses urgent needs arising from the globalization of financial crime and the slow pace of traditional procedures, as illustrated by the Abacha, Pinochet, and Obiang cases.
The report expected in Rabat, though likely not public, is anticipated to confirm the effectiveness and simplicity of this new instrument, which is set to play a central role in the international fight against criminal assets.
