Morocco to face Colombia, Chile and the Netherlands in Kings League 2026 group stage

Morocco will compete against Colombia, Chile, and the Netherlands in the group stage of the 2026 Kings League of Nations, following the official draw held in Copacabana, Brazil. The tournament, which begins in January, will feature some of the world’s most vibrant football nations, with host and defending champion Brazil placed in Group D alongside Spain, Qatar, and Peru.

Germany, Argentina, the United States, and Japan make up Group B, while Italy, France, Poland, and Belgium form Group C. Group E includes Mexico, Saudi Arabia, India, and Indonesia, promising an eclectic mix of playing styles and fan cultures.

Morocco’s previous campaign in Italy saw them reach the semi-finals after a strong showing, defeating Ukraine, Japan, and the United States before falling 2-1 to Colombia. That loss adds intrigue to their upcoming rematch in the group stage, as both teams renew their rivalry with high expectations.

Founded in 2022 by former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, the Kings League is a seven-a-side football tournament that combines sport, entertainment, and digital interactivity. Played on artificial turf, its matches are streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, attracting millions of online viewers. Fans can even influence match decisions through live voting.

The competition stands out for its unconventional rules: matches last 40 minutes divided into two halves of 20, with “golden cards” introducing unpredictable twists such as double goals, instant penalties, or temporary player suspensions. Tied games are resolved by shootouts from midfield, often followed by fireworks that amplify the show-like atmosphere.

Each team is led by a mix of football legends and online creators, including Sergio Agüero and Iker Casillas, bridging professional football and global streaming culture. A women’s edition, the Queens League, is also in development, reflecting the growing diversity of the franchise.

Before the international tournament begins, the Kings League will open its 2025–2026 season with the Kings Cup MENA on 24 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event, part of Riyadh Season, will feature celebrity-led teams in a five-day competition celebrating football and entertainment.

At an August event hosted by Piqué, seven of the region’s most prominent streamers unveiled their Kings League MENA teams. This marks the seventh regional league, following editions in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Brazil, and Latin America.

Kings League CEO Djamel Agaoua highlighted the growing cultural influence of the project, noting that the Kings Cup MENA “will give fans in Riyadh and across the region a new experience, blending football with digital culture.”
