Morocco stuns Argentina to claim first U20 World Cup title

Morocco has made history with a remarkable 2–0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA U20 World Cup final, ending Argentina’s 42-year unbeaten streak in the tournament’s championship matches. The Atlas Cubs delivered an inspired performance, becoming the first African team to win the U20 World Cup.

The match, held in Chile, saw Morocco dominate early as Yassir Zabiri scored twice in the first half. He first converted a stunning free kick before doubling Morocco's lead with a powerful volley. The victory secured Morocco’s first-ever World Cup title, marking a milestone for African football on the global stage.

Lionel Messi, legendary Argentine footballer, expressed his support for Argentina’s young players despite the loss. In a heartfelt message, Messi wrote, “Heads up boys. You had an amazing tournament, and even though we all wanted to see you lift the Cup, we’re left with the joy of everything you gave us and the pride of seeing how you defended the sky blue and white with your hearts.”

The match drew widespread attention, with former Barcelona and Chilean national team star Arturo Vidal joining the chorus of praise for Morocco’s achievement. In an Instagram story, Vidal celebrated the Atlas Cubs’ triumph, calling their performance in Chile “incredible.”

Argentina entered the final as favorites, having scored 15 goals and maintained clean sheets throughout the knockout stages. However, Morocco’s resilience and tactical brilliance surprised the South Americans. Fans from both Morocco and Chile filled the stadium, creating a vibrant atmosphere that underscored the significance of the game.

This victory cements Morocco’s position as a rising force in international football and inspires future generations of African players.
