Morocco strengthens investment ties as EBRD vice president visits the kingdom
Morocco is set to reinforce its economic partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as Mark Bowman, the institution’s Vice President for Policy and Partnerships, begins an official visit to the kingdom from June 24 to 26, 2026.
The visit reflects the growing importance of Morocco as a regional investment destination and highlights ongoing efforts to support economic modernization, private sector development, and sustainable growth. It also underscores the EBRD’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Moroccan authorities and businesses at a time when countries worldwide are seeking new opportunities to attract investment and accelerate economic transformation.
During his stay, Bowman is expected to hold meetings with several senior Moroccan officials, including government representatives responsible for infrastructure, water resources, industry, and trade. Discussions will focus on enhancing Morocco’s economic attractiveness, encouraging private investment, and supporting reforms designed to improve the business environment.
The talks are expected to center on three key priorities. The first is strengthening competitiveness and promoting inclusive growth led by the private sector. The second involves accelerating the country’s environmental transition through increased support for renewable energy projects and green investments. The third focuses on facilitating access to private financing and encouraging greater participation from domestic and international investors.
These objectives align with Morocco’s broader development strategy, which aims to diversify the economy, create jobs, and improve resilience in the face of global economic and environmental challenges.
In addition to meetings with government officials, the EBRD delegation is scheduled to engage with representatives from the private sector and the Moroccan banking industry. These discussions are expected to explore opportunities for expanding financial access, supporting entrepreneurship, and developing new investment projects capable of driving long-term economic growth.
Morocco has maintained a strong relationship with the EBRD since becoming one of its founding members. Over the past decade, the bank has financed numerous projects across various sectors, including renewable energy, transportation, industry, and financial services. A significant share of these investments has been directed toward private enterprises, reflecting the institution’s emphasis on supporting business development and innovation.
The kingdom has increasingly positioned itself as a regional hub for investment, benefiting from strategic infrastructure projects, industrial expansion, and ambitious sustainability initiatives. As global investors continue to seek stable and dynamic markets, Morocco’s role as a gateway between Europe and Africa has become increasingly attractive.
Analysts believe that closer cooperation between Morocco and international financial institutions such as the EBRD could play a crucial role in mobilizing capital, supporting economic reforms, and advancing the country’s transition toward a greener and more competitive economy.
Bowman’s visit is therefore expected to further strengthen a long-standing partnership that continues to contribute to Morocco’s economic development ambitions while promoting sustainable and inclusive growth across key sectors of the national economy.
