Morocco strengthens automotive sector with new agreements

Morocco is advancing its robust automotive industry, which consistently attracts global industry leaders. Recently, a coalition of Moroccan institutions, including key ministries and employment agencies, signed two agreements aimed at enhancing the sector through employment and training initiatives.

The first agreement, finalized on Wednesday, involves the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC), and the Moroccan Association for the Automotive Industry and Construction (AMICA). This partnership aims to promote employment within the automotive sector and address the industry's growing needs by facilitating the recruitment of skilled professionals.

The second agreement, established between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and AMICA, focuses on increasing local integration within the automotive industry, thereby enhancing the local added value of car and component exports.

Morocco’s automotive sector achieved a record export value of MAD 157 billion last year, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 148% over the past decade. This performance has solidified Morocco's status as Africa’s leading automotive manufacturing hub and has improved its global ranking.

The North African nation is home to major industrial players like Stellantis, which operates a plant in Kenitra producing urban electric vehicles for global markets. Additionally, the Renault Group has allocated electric vehicle models to its Moroccan facilities.

Notably, Morocco has recently surpassed China to become the European Union’s top automotive trading partner, with automotive exports to the EU valued at €15.1 billion in 2023.
